OUR FOUNDER

Headshot.jpg

This club was founded at UTD during the Spring of 2019, right before the pandemic. The founder, Neha Bhupathiraju was a freshman at the time and had been working with Medical City Dallas since 2016. As a pre-med student herself, she knew how important volunteering and clinical hours were to med school applicants and she wanted to share this opportunity with her peers at UTD while also helping the volunteer program at Medical City grow after major staffing losses during the pandemic.

"Medical City Dallas has provided me with opportunities throughout the hospital since I was in high school. I was able to work in guest services, emergency, pediatrics and so much more. Now I work closely with the volunteer coordinator on special projects and to manage our amazing crew of volunteers. Being a volunteer has given me the opportunity to learn more about various specialties in the medical field, to gain insight into the administrative work that goes in to managing a hospital and volunteer program, and to meet physicians, patients, and other volunteers from all walks of life.

I say this at all of our general body meetings: this club is really what you make of it. Since we work closely with the hospital there is always something that our members can be involved in. Whether that be through volunteer events at UTD, shifts at the hospital, or just sharing ideas at meetings, we want our members to work alongside our leadership team to make the club something they can really be proud of.

I was shocked at how quickly our club grew this past year alone following a year of fully online classes and I can't wait to see how much we will continue to grow in the years to come. Thank you all for supporting this club, we really wouldn't be where we are without the interest and commitment of our members."
